Foiling week, an unforgettable success and a record run

Day six - The Foiling Week 2014 Martina Orsini
The Foiling Week, a new event in 2014 left some extraordinary, indelible memories with everyone who was there, for the sailing, the watching and debates.

The event became a wonderful, strange mix of friendship between sailors with an innovating spirit! 1000’s of joined in to watch live sailing feeds and the forum of global experts. www.foilingweek.com hosts some wonderful video clips and a gallery of the world’s best foiling boats ripping it up in beautiful Lake Garda – you’ll get goose bumps!

Designers, builders, journalists, sailors and the simply curious each shared and contributed their vision, experiences, dreams and hypothesis about the future of sailing as a foiling sport.

We promise an even bigger, better event in 2015, build on the 2014‘ share to innovate’ theme. On the final day, hydrofoil boats of all types competed in the long distance endurance race 'TFW Mixed Fleet'. The quirks and strengths of different craft became clear - it’s now obvious that each type of hydrofoil boat has areas in which the best performance is expressed and dark corners that represent their improvement. The purpose of the Mixed Fleet Race was exactly that: to confront and understand.

The ranking is fierce: the foil-kite performance is incredible and versatile – as its dominance in the ranking attests.

The GC32 catamaran set a new speed record on Wednesday, ninth. Sebastian Col and Josh Mcknight sent the impressive catamaran flying through to 37.9 knots! The next target for this Innovative hydrofoil one design is to break down the 40 knots barrier.

The final Forum Day took advantage of the confidence built in the week, with passionate speaker presentations and talks around the boat park. The Foiling Week spirit was clear when we watched Sebastian Col chatting with young builders like Michele Petrucci and the fluid dynamics gurus engaging with the best Foiling Kite speed demons. We’re proud all the attendees got to speak freely, without worrying about anything like world rankings or shyness.

Foiling has become sailings third mode. And our first passion.
