Audi Coppa Europa Smeralda 888 starts

by YCCS media on 28 Jun 2008
SW
The thirteen teams competing in the Audi Coppa Europa Smeralda 888 (June 27 to 29) completed one windward – leeward race in the first day of the event which sees Yacht Clubs from across the globe gather in Porto Cervo for three days of racing and socializing at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

Today’s race saw the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda team headed by Vincenzo Onorato aboard Mascalzone Latino take victory over Paul Basson’s Another Affair representing the Yacht Club de Monaco.

The event has been running since 1998 and has traditionally seen teams from the New York Yacht Club, the Royal Yacht Squadron, the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS)competing aboard the Smeralda 888 craft commissioned by the YCCS from German Frers at the start of the 1980s. In recent years the Gstaad Yacht Club of Switzerland has joined in the event which also contributes to the scoring for their 'Yacht and Ski' event.

A coastal race is scheduled to start tomorrow Saturday June 27th at 13.00.
