Auckland Blokart Club Team stopped by Police for speeding

by Ross Vickers on 1 Feb 2011
NZ Police pull over a group of Blokarts for Speeding Ross Vickers

With the Masters Games Blokart regatta less than one week away the Auckland Blokart Club (ABC) team has been out training over the weekend in ideal conditions. Team members, Russell Harray, Barry Cole along with Bruce and Jenny Hales sailed Muriwai beach on Saturday in near perfect conditions.

Hitting speeds on 74km/hr (40knots) in around 20 knots of wind the experience gained will prove to be invaluable when sailing the Ohakea runway during the Masters Games this weekend.

Monday saw Cole and Harray return to the beach for some more high speed sailing albeit in slightly lighter winds.

With speeds of 64km/hr (35knots) in 12 to 15 knots of wind Harray ran into trouble early in the training session with Police pulling over a group of four Blokarts for speeding, it seems that 64km/hr in a 30km/hr zone is too fast!

The ABC team will face stiff competition in all divisions with world championships one two combination from the Bay of Plenty, Paul Beckett and Theo Vondervoort up against ABC’s own world championships one two combination of Harray and John Nicholson. The Canterbury, Manawatu and Capital (Wellington) teams are also expected to be strong, particularly in the lighter weight divisions.

The Auckland Blokart Club wishes its team all the best for the event.
