All I wanted for Christmas . . . SUP

What’s SUP Superior Jetties www.superiorjetties.com
They’re everywhere, in every shape, size and colour, and it seems the segment is growing like wildfire. Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP) are one of the fastest growing sports in Australia and around the world.

Superior Jetties, through its Play segment has created a rotomoulded SUP manufactured by Superior Plastech on the Gold Coast.

The Superior SUP features extreme resistance to damage compared to many other composites which can dent and break. Superior’s SUP can be thrown in the back of a ute or on top of a cruiser.

As John Hogan, CEO at Superior explains: 'Our SUP is really an entry level product, not for the highly skilled who would seek performance fibreglass, but it’s ideal for families, the rental market and people who just want to try it without the financial commitment upfront. '

In two versions, the R1 and R2, the Superior SUP retails for around $600 to $700.

'It’s strong, heavier than many on the market, around 16kg, but that weight means you have a lower centre of gravity and it’s easier to stand on. It might be slightly heavier to carry, but you can get a set of wheels. Our SUP is rotomoulded polyethylene with foam stiffener, hollow, durable and it won’t get dings,' continues Hogan.

Superior Plastech has one of the largest, state of the art rotomoulding machines in the southern hemisphere now they are applying their technical expertise to produce the 10' Superior Watersports paddle board.

The Superior Watersports board was designed by Australian surfing legend Dave Verral and is made from 100% Australian materials and labour. The board is ideal for the beginner to intermediate level rider as with its large beam it is easier to ride. The Superior SUP features a large deck grip area for easy movement around the board and a front cargo net and rear waterproof locker for stowage.

The basic model is the R2, while the R1 upgraded version has water resistant storage box for phone, car keys, leg rope and drain, as well as bungee cord for carrying fishing gear and other stuff.

They come complete with aluminium paddle and are available in three colours: white, blue and pink. You can customise the colour of your board for an extra 10% on top of the price.

'When you look at what you’re getting, it’s great value. Unlike some other SUPs, ours boasts the right pedigree, and was designed and built on the GC. Ours includes a professional fin box and removable fin which is 10mm and runs on smooth waterline so there’s no obstruction - it moves with ease.'

Superior will be beefing up its Play segment this year, with a host of new products, including 'Waterscape', a new brand and product range that involves a patented new marina system, launching at the 2014 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
