2015 Melges 32 Audi-Tron Series - Riva goes down to wire for final day

by Melges 32 on 7 Jun 2015
2015 Melges 32 Audi-Tron Sailing Series BPSE / MMelandri
2015 Melges 32 Audi-Tron Sailing Series - Three additional races took place on stunning Lake Garda today, bringing the total number of races complete to six. On the completion of the sixth race, a discard went into play with mesmerizing effects to the leaderboard. Dalton DeVos on Delta, the youngest cast member of the 2015 Audi-Tron Sailing Series Act Three edition now commands the overall lead on countback to Roberto Tomasini Grinover's Robertissima. Seated first and second respectively, they carry an equal twenty-one points each. This fight is far from over.

Each race completed on Saturday presented a different winner, a very welcomed attribute to the racing in this highly competitive and star-studded fleet.

Alec Cutler aboard hedgehog had a nice day to take the bullet in Race Four. Despite a great chase for the lead Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio's G-SPOT finished second, fending off Tomasini Grinover who settled for third.

DeVos made things look all too easy in Race Five. He took an early lead at the top mark and extended for the win. Serena di Lapigio surged again, but Jason Carroll on Argo outpaced the G-SPOT team and Tomasini Grinover on the last run to overtake for second.

The last race of the day went to Alessandro Rombelli's STIG. Valentin Zavadnikov's Synergy GT,Edoardo Lupi and Massimo Pessina's Torpyone, and Cutler traded places occasionally throughout the race to land in order second through fourth. Grinover stayed strong to finish in the top five.

DeVos had a very successful day moving up from fourth overall to first, Tomasini Grinover went from sixth to second, while Serena di Lapigio advanced the most impressively - from tenth to third.

Sunday, the final day of racing will be the most intense thus far with so much pressure on top teams to do well. Two more races are scheduled with a noon start.
