by Ruth Harrington on 1 Jul 2012
Race 13, Nova Scotia - Derry-Londonderry Day 15 - Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2011-12 onEdition http://www.onEdition.com
Clipper 2011-12 Round the World Yacht Race fleet are on day fifteen of race thirteen from Nova Scotia to Derry-Londonderry. Welcome to Yorkshire was the third yacht to berth in Derry-Londonderry today, arriving on the north Irish coast at 01:49 GMT this morning. The Yorkshire entry won the final podium position after a 2,350 mile tough upwind battle across the North Atlantic.

With just two races left before the finish in Southampton on 22 July, Welcome to Yorkshire continues to chase Singapore for fourth place overall. The Yorkshire entry was the first yacht to cross through the optional Scoring Gate in Race 13, securing three valuable points.

Welcome to Yorkshire skipper Rupert Dean commented, 'We had a great start to Race 13. We turned out of the harbour and started our upwind leg. Just ahead of us was this tropical storm ‘Chris’ and at the time I was locked in a battle with Gold Coast Australia and Singapore to be the first team to cross the Scoring Gate and win those important three points.'

'With just two short races ahead of us we will be focusing a lot more as a team. You can do so much more and work at a far more intense pace when you’re racing for just a few days,' added Rupert Dean.

Visit Finland, Edinburgh Inspiring Capital and New York are all due to arrive in Derry-Londonderry later today. The rest of the fleet is expected on Sunday apart from the final yacht which is expected Monday afternoon.
