Glyn Charles Pursuit Race entries open

by HISC on 19 May 2012
Glyn Charles - Barcelona 1990 HISC
Online entry is now open for the 2012 Glyn Charles Pursuit Race. The event this year will take place on Sunday 20 May. The photo is quite a poignant HISC photo as it shows Glyn Charles (centre) in 1990 in Barcelona with HISC members, Rob Cruickshank and Tim Hancock, at the pre-pre Olympics practice regatta.

With Glyn helming they won the Soling Class beating, amongst others, Jochen Schumann, who was the 1988 (and 1996) Gold medallist in Solings...

Glyn Charles represented Britain in the Star Class at the Savannah Games in 1996 finishing 11th, and was in training with the British squad in Sydney for the 2000 Games when he was invited to join the crew of the Sword of Orion, just days before the Sydney to Hobart race began. During the race the fleet was hit by 30ft high waves and storm-force winds. Glyn was swept overboard from the 43ft Australian vessel, his body has never been traced. He was one of six people who died during the race.

The Glyn Charles Memorial Pursuit Race is open to all monohull dinghies with a PY of 1459 and below. Also the Keelboat classes Artemis 20, Flying 15, RS K6, RS Elite, X boat, Swallow, Sunbeam, Hawk, Star, Yngling...

Other classes may be accepted at the discretion of the organizing authority, contact the HISC Office. Eligible boats may enter by completing the online form and submitting the entry fee using the HISC website. On-line entry will be available on the Event page from Tuesday 1 May Event website
