The Vendée Globe is a sailing race around the world, for singlehanded sailors, without any stopovers.
The film industry is once again taking on one of its most iconic themes, the sea, to transpose the most amazing marine adventure of all times, the Vendée Globe, on the silver screen.
The feature film 'En Solitaire', directed by young film-maker Christophe Offenstein, tells the incredible story of a skipper played by French star François Cluzet and competing in his first Vendée Globe.
The shooting of the movie that will bring together Cluzet, Virginie Efira and Guillaume Canet will begin on October 1. Part of it will take place during the Vendée Globe start in Les Sables d’Olonne on November 10.
This feature film results from a partnership between Vendée Globe organiser Saem Vendée and movie companies Gaumont and Films du Cap Vert.
As an international coproduction involving France, Spain and Belgium, 'En Solitaire' will be released in France in November 2013 after being showcased to international film purchasers during the upcoming Cannes Film Festival (May 16-26) .
SAEM Vendée President Bruno Retailleau is very happy with this outstanding project that will increase the reach of Vendée and the Vendée Globe even farther. The Vendée Globe has all it takes to inspire an unforgettable film:
• A sumptuous setting: The sea and its beautiful and wild breathtaking landscapes
• An extreme screenplay: A man and his boat in a single-handed round-the-world race sailed non-stop and with no assistance
• Outstanding protagonists: Yachtsmen carried by the wind of adventure and self-surpassing
• An enthusiastic audience: Millions of Vendée Globe fans throughout the
