Clipper Round the World Race - New Edinburgh Inspiring Capital skipper

by Clipper Round the World Race on 6 May 2012
Piers Dudin - Permanent Edinburgh Inspiring Capital skipper Clipper Round The World Yacht Race http://www.clipperroundtheworld.com
In the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the crew on board Edinburgh Inspiring Capital has been informed that Piers Dudin will be the new, permanent skipper.

Piers was a skipper on the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race, but had to leave the race mid-Pacific when he broke his leg on the race from Qingdao to San Francisco. He will take over as skipper of the Scottish entry in New York.

Piers, 34, from Salisbury, Wiltshire, has been sailing since he was six and worked as a maths teacher before he became a professional sailor more than ten years ago.

Race Director Joff Bailey says, 'Piers is a very experienced sailor and the perfect candidate to take Edinburgh Inspiring Capital from New York across the Atlantic Ocean to the Southampton finish line via stopovers in Derry-Londonderry and Den Helder. He knows exactly what is required of the race, due to his participation in 09-10, which was unfortunately cut short. The last leg will be a competitive across the fleet, with an Atlantic crossing and several shorter sprint races. With many points up for grabs there is still all to race for and I am sure Piers will focus the crew on finishing with a flourish.'

Piers takes over as skipper on Edinburgh Inspiring Capital from Race 12 start in New York on 7th June, where interim skipper Flavio Zamboni finishes due to previous commitments. Clipper Round the World Race website
