Yngling Open Springtime Championship 2012 Elena Giolai/Fraglia Vela Riva
The first day of the 2012 Yngling Open Springtime Championship got underway with close to 30 boats taking part in this year's edition. This event is now a fixture on Fraglia Vela Riva's calendar and runs until Saturday, 5th May.
Countries participating are Austria, The Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland with the Dutch being the great enthusiasts in this class. The first day of the regatta was marked by southerly winds inconsistent in both intensity and direction. Nevertheless two races were completed.
The Austrian crew of Mayr-Knittel- Spaengler (AUT 293) are in the lead after taking a first and a second. They are followed by Jan-Sander- Van Der Zee of The Netherlands (NED 337) who after a fifth in the first race, went on to win the second. Maarten-Jaap-Menno (NED 355) are third and tied on points with a 2-4. Two races are scheduled each day until Saturday for a total of eight races altogether.
