Tasar fleet brings fun and fierce racing to Lake Boga

The tranquil waters of Lake Boga came alive over the Easter weekend as 18 Tasars from across Australia gathered for one of the fleet's most anticipated events—the Lake Boga Easter Regatta. With competitors travelling from as far afield as South Australia, the ACT, New South Wales, and even Western Australia, the regatta's growing reputation as a Tasar favourite was on full display.

True to its roots, the event blended competitive racing with relaxed, family-friendly energy. A strong showing of parent-child duos and couple teams gave the fleet a unique dynamic both on and off the water. Over three days of racing, sailors were treated to a full spectrum of conditions—from gentle 6-knot breezes to gusty 16-knot sessions—before fresh winds on the final day led to racing being called off.

Despite the breeze-up, sunshine and warmth prevailed, setting the stage for high-quality racing and an easy-going schedule that even included lunch ashore—just one of the perks of sailing at picturesque Lake Boga.

At the front of the fleet, Mark and William Bulka delivered a masterclass in consistency, scoring two firsts and two seconds to secure the overall win. Harrison Sly and Ellen Juhasz were never out of the top five and claimed second place, while Wayne and Julie took third, buoyed by a standout race win.

Off the water, the regatta was equally memorable. The now-traditional Tasar party featured leftover Nationals champagne and the signature Tasar blend of humour, tall tales, and enduring camaraderie.

The Lake Boga Easter Regatta is a key fixture in the Victorian Talisman Trophy circuit, and this year's strong turnout and vibrant spirit signal a bright future for the event. Next year, the regatta is set to become a major tune-up for Aussie teams before they take on the Tasar World Championships in Okinawa, Japan.
