Some of New Zealand’s favourite sailing dinghy classes and their clubs and associations will make a spectacular return to this year’s Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show, at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane, Auckland on May 17-20.

Classes from the entry level Optimists up to the thrill-a-minute 18ft skiffs will all be represented in the show’s new celebration of dinghy sailing, Dinghy Central. Presented with help from Weta Trimarans and the various class associations, Dinghy Central will feature 24 different sailing dinghies. All will be fully rigged, accompanied by a detailed description and have at least one knowledgeable representative alongside.

Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show general manager Dave Gibbs says it is fantastic to have so many of New Zealand’s top dinghy classes back at the show.

:

'Dinghy Central is going to be a superb addition to the show,' he says. 'Almost all of New Zealand’s top sailors started in one or more of these classes. Dinghy Central will help enthuse the top sailors of tomorrow and give them all the information they need to get out there and get sailing.'

Dinghy Central will occupy a large part of Hall 6 and will feature fully rigged examples of the following classes: Weta, Optimist, P Class, Javelin, PT, 420, 12’ and 18ft skiffs, RSX, Laser, 3.7, Starling, Zephyr, Elliott, Mistral, Jollyboat, Phase II, OK, Sunburst, A Cat, Access, Europe and Splash.

'There is something here for everyone,' says Dave Gibbs. 'Whether you are 8 or 80, one of these fun sailing dinghies will be perfect for you.

'And, with all the experts on hand to offer free advice, it will never be easier to get back sailing or get out sailing for the first time.'
