National 125 Class WA Championships - Master wins but Junior star

by Andrew Tailor on 9 Apr 2012
National 125 Class WA Championships 2012 South of Perth Yacht Club
The 'Rapid Crushing' WA 125 championships were conducted during the Easter weekend with 20 boats attending a light breeze event superbly hosted by South of Perth Yacht Club.

State President and long time 125er Andrew Tailor and crew Nick Syme sailing Flashback won the series with a race to spare after posting consistent numbers throughout while others were more erratic. But perhaps the big story from the event was the performance of the Junior sailors with four boats sharing heat wins between them.

Esperance Juniors Hugh Brotherton and Hilton Andrews were runners up and Junior Champions at their first attempt while consistency award went to East Fremantle crew Zoe Shiner and Lucy Syme on Boogie Nights.

Timber hulled boats, some 25 years old also featured in the results which shows that good sailing can beat healthy cheque accounts.

Next seasons National Championships will be hosted at Lake MaQuarie NSW while the WA association will travel to Esperance for their State Championships at Easter 2013.

Results:
1st Flashback (Andrew Tailor and Nick Syme)
2nd Blonde in Disguise (Hugh Brotherton and Hilton Andrews)
3rd What Eva (Dave Stewart and Jack Swallow)
4th Rage (Craig Moffit and Bess Murray)
5th Green Out (Alex Thomson and Shannon Wright)
6th Kraken Up (Ryan Donaldson and Alex McCallum)
