World Champion Bin Hendi aims to fight back

Class 1 Powerboat racing Victory Team’s Nadir Bin Hendi has promised to fight to clear his name after he was hit with a two year ban by the UIM, powerboating’s world governing body, after testing positive for a banned substance last year.

'I feel sorry, and honestly I am depressed for the way things are going in my future and my life,' he said. 'I have been racing for 20 years and never in my life have I intended to take anything illegal.'

The four-time World Champion feels he has been handed a harsh penalty by the UIM, and believes the substance in question, methylhexaneamine, emanated from his use of a nasal spray, Xylo Comod, which he took to using on the advice of doctors after breaking his nose in a jet-ski accident in 2004, rather than opting for surgery.

He says the evidence of the laboratory testing suggests that, while the decongestant does not contain the banned substance, the constant use of it causes the body to produce it. 'I have never knowingly taken a banned substance in my life and was unaware that this could happen when the substance is not in the spray I was using.'

Bin Hendi has said that Victory Team is fully behind him and supporting him and that the next step is to take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland.
