Over the 24-26 March, the Historical 10 Foot Skiff Championships are set to take place. The races are detailed in the Notice of Race with the first race on Saturday at 2pm but before that, we are launching our new rescue boat!
The launch will be taking place at around 12.30pm on Saturday 24th after the race briefing which starts at 12.00pm.
Everybody is welcome to see the launch and then stay to see the start of the race. It should be great fun. At last count, we have seven or eight boats coming up from Sydney and Lake Macquarie and we have five Brisbane boats.
To start the weekend, we are meeting at the 'Shed', at 5/59 Riverside Place, Morningside for drinks and BBQ from 1800Hrs on Friday night. There is one race on Saturday and then two races on Sunday. We finish with one final race on the Monday at 12.00pm.
On the Saturday, the Brisbane Sailing Squadron will also be conducting their normal race day, so there will be lots of boats on the water. Drinks and food will be available.
Also in attendance will be Robin Elliott and John 'Steamer' Stanley over Saturday and Sunday, promoting Robin’s new book 'Galloping Ghosts' which details the history of the 18ft skiffs in Australia and New Zealand. There’s sure to be plenty of argument from some old salts as prominent myths and half truths are put to rest following extensive research.
We look forward to seeing you all down at the sailing whether you come down just for the new rescue boat launching or at some other time during the weekend. Whenever you come down, you are sure to run into some old friends!
All the action is at the Brisbane Sailing Squadron, End of Quay Street, Bulimba and you will also have a good vantage point at Colmslie Recreation Reserve boat ramp at the end of Col Gardner Drive,
