DAC Racing has announced a new line up for the 2012 season.

Italian Gian Maria Gabbiani will be making his Class 1 debut alongside Guido Cappellini in Poliform at next week’s Qatar Grand Prix in Doha 14-17 March.

The young Italian, who comes from a motorsport background, his father Beppe enjoying a career on four wheels and competing at the highest level in Formula 1, started out racing in Karts, moving up to compete in F3, the GT Championship, F3000 and Nascar.

In 2010 he made his powerboat racing debut in the Italian Championship, competing in the Miglia del Lario on Lake Como and the Endurance Championship.

DAC Racing’s new driver teams-up with the ten-times F1H2O World Champion Guido Cappellini, who is now fully recovered from a broken ankle and starts his third full season in Class 1. 'I believe we have a very good package and set-up this season and can build and improve on last season in a competitive boat that took us to our first win in Italy,' he said. 'Gian Maria is new to Class 1 but he has a solid background in racing and he’s learned quickly on the water.

'The Doha circuit will be very challenging for us and the boat. It has long fast straights and we are expecting it to be rough. We realise that our short hull is more suited and performs better on tighter circuits but we will give 110%.'
