Octojigging Arno Bay snapper

Octo jigging isn’t a new technique, rather an older style method that has just got better.

While there are many different methods to use when fishing, octo jigging is extremely effective on bottom dwelling species. One species in particular, snapper are quite fond of octo jigs and respond very well when they are bounced over the bottom or near a reef.

On a recent trip to Arno Bay, South Australia with good friend Ashley Smith from Arno Bay fishing adventures, we once again put the octo jigs to the test with some very good results. Arno Bay can really turn it on delivering some of the largest snapper caught in the country. With fish around in excess of 20lb, what better way to buckle some rods, make some reels scream and wait for an octo jig to be devoured.

So what is an octo jig:

Outfit required:

When you are heading out in search of snapper, make sure you have an arsenal of jigs at the ready.

While snapper are just one species to target with octo stlye jigs, coral trout, grouper, red bass and plenty more bottom species will also engulf them.

The next time you’re heading offshore to explore the bottom, tie on an octo jig, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the results.

If you heading to Arno Bay in South Australia and want to experience snapper fishing at its best, call Ash from Arno Bay Fishing Adventures on 0427 282 000 for an experience you’ll never forget.
