UIM World GP Hydroplane Championship-Aussie Harrison grabs win + Video

All eyes are were on Lake Karapiro, New Zealand on February 4 and 5. The UIM World GP Hydroplane Championship was a battle beteen drivers from Australia, New Zealand and the USA.

After round one on Saturday February 4, Renegade was on 400 points and led GP1 on 300 points followed by Fair Warning 225 points and Annihilator 2 169 points.

After two days rounds of racing Grant Harrison, GP1, was named the unofficial UIM World GP Hydroplane Champion.

The Australian driver was the 2004 U.I.M World Grand Prix Hydroplane Champion in a previous boat, ‘GP101’ GP Hydro. After winning the World Championship, in 2005 during testing in Australia GP101 hit debris in the water which caused the destruction of GP101 and left Harrison with life threatening injuries.

Recovered, Harrison has gone from strength to strength in his Grant Rollason/Harrison Race team built replacement boat GP1 and can now add this latest win to an impressive list which includes the 2010/2011 Australian Unlimited Unrestricted Open Championship 'Hayes Wood Trophy' and several ‘EC Griffith Cup’ wins (Australasian Unlimited Unrestricted Championship).
