The next few months are booked out with regatta racing for the highly competitive Australian Melges 32 fleet.

Kicking off the racing was last weekend's inaugural Gosford Regatta, hosted by Gosford Sailing Club. The Melges 32’s competed in eight exciting races over the two days in light and variable breeze on beautiful Brisbane Waters. Another close series for the 32’s, and on completion of day one Kim Williams Rock and Roll was two points ahead leading the regatta.

Gosford Sailing Club is home to two Melges 32’s , the most recent members of the fleet, Michael Turner Stitch and brothers John McDougall and Andrew McDougall (Club President) owners of Mac, all have been watching the success and growth of the National Melges 32 fleet and have now joined the fun .

The crew on board the McDougall’s Mac are still finding their feet on the Melges 32 and this was their first regatta after taking delivery of their boat late last year.

Gosford Sailing Club has been very supportive in providing the event and promoting the class. Next month the Melges 32’s will be holding their second Australian Championships off Pittwater. Throughout the season the Gosford crews have the option to race with the Pittwater fleet on Broken Bay , they will be fighting to take the Championship Title back to GSC.

One hot contender for the Championship Title who has been putting in plenty of Melges 32 racing, kicking off their season at Hamilton Island is Canberra sailor Angus Reid and his crew on Maxstar. Maxstar had a successful day two of racing at Gosford and upset Rock and Roll winning the extremely close regatta by one point.

Kim Willliams Rock and Roll will be eager to avenge Maxstar at the next event to test the Melges 32’s; the Sydney Harbour Regatta 10-11 March at Middle Harbour Yacht Club, followed by the Championships RPAYC and Sail Port Stephens in April.
