Miami OCR kicks off with a bang! The Laser & Radial Canadian sailors came to work today. Dave Wright brought his 'A' game today and leads the entire fleet with two bullets on the day. Chris Dold, who was leading in points going into OCR, also had a solid day with a 2, 3 in the split fleet qualification on the Laser course. Other very notable results are Lee Parkhill with 9,2, sitting 11th overall. Robert Davis hung out at the front of the pack all day with a 6, 11, in 14th overall.
In the Radial class, Danielle Dube showed her focus and determination with a 2,5 on the day. 'I am happy with my performance today', Dube goes on to say, 'this is my best international results ever'. Dube sits in second overall behind Marit Bouwmeester (NED). Lisa Ross is currently in 17th, followed by Bertold in 20th. Although only one day in this trials scenario is bound to get exciting as the week evolves.
Tough day on the Finn course, as the winds dropped dramatically in the afternoon for the start of the Finn racing. Having only completed one race today, Canadians struggled in the light air. Wilton sits in seventh overall, while Greg Douglas and Martin Robitaille were both caught as premature starters under the black flag.
470 team Ramsay/Leigh are currently in 14th overall after one race along with Archibald/Dexter in the women's 470 W.
Dave Hayes was pleased with his racing today on the RSX course with a fourth in the first race. Unfortunately an OCS sets him back on the results board in ninth overall, but it doesn't faze Hayes. He was in top spot when he drew an OCS. Dave says 'I was battling for the lead, it is unfortunate but I am happy with my racing today'. On the women's side, Dominique Vallee is in sixth overall.
Star team Clarke/Bjorn had a difficult day on Miami waters with a 7, 13 and sit in 10th overall. Loof/Salminen from SWE currently hold down top spot after 2 races.
On the 2.4mr course, Paul Tingley currently sits in fourth. Seguin (FRA) leads the fleet with a 2, 1 on the day.
SKUD team McRoberts/Louttit are in fifth overall. Canadian Sonar team Millar/Campbell/Lutes had a 5,9 and sit in seventh overall.
The 49er results board is full of Canadians led by Ladha/Inkpen in third, Gooderham/Hogan in fourth and Cook/Lowden in sixth.
More racing to come! Stay tuned.
