Tasmania is hot

by Carl Hyland on 17 Jan 2012
Small snapper are a surprise catch. Carl Hyland
Whilst scientists and others are focusing on why water temperatures around the shoreline of Tasmania are climbing, anglers are welcoming the rise of temps with open arms. This means we are seeing species in the Southern oceans that are perhaps not normally around, but with sub surface sea temperatures going through the roof, have turned up and are likely to be about for some time.

Whilst some species have been slow to kick start in the state, those such as Albacore tuna have been about for some months, no doubt chasing the bait schools that are present in the upwelling currents along the East Coast of the state. I was receiving reports about the presence of Albacore some two months ago, off Eddystone Point in the State’s North East and have been steadily tracking their ‘migration’ route along the East Coast towards the Southern oceans.

Reports of small snapper from the Southern part of the state are unusual, so too are captures of large King George Whiting along the North Coast, are these capture just ‘incidents’ or are they set to become the norm? Let’s hope it’s the latter.

I predict a bumper season for Yellowfin and the Bluefin season which occurs in the latter cooler months.

News that Robson Green of Extreme Fishing fame is set to visit the state and complete some episodes for up-coming series has everyone down here talking. I have managed to secure some more details, so if you are interested, keep reading………The Tuna Club of Tasmania Inc, Tasmanian’s Premiere and largest Game Fishing Club has been negotiating with Extreme Fishing Star and UK TV Celebrity Robson Green to visit Tasmania to make several episodes of their Internationally successful Extreme Fishing Show which are shown Internationally on Pay TV to Millions of fishing fanatics World Wide.

The UK Pay TV Series is making several episodes of the Extreme Fishing Shows whilst in Tasmania where Robson will meet and fish with and against several Tasmanian Fishing Celebrities and Professionals.

Locally, fishing at Eaglehawk Neck, Robson will team up with a local Tuna Club Crew on Moonshine Charters versus Team Diversion made up of Some of the Clubs Best Fishermen in what will be a brilliant competition to see how many various fishing varieties they can catch in a dedicated time period out of Pirates Bay on the Tasman Peninsula on Sunday 22nd January 2012.

Robson will also be fishing for Elephant Fish in the South of the State in this Visit. They have also indicated they will fish out of other regions of the State as well, mainly chasing Mako sharks on the Northern coastline.
