Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships third day continued with the Women's Match Racing plus racing got underway in four of the fleet racing classes: Women’s RS:X, Finn, Laser Radial and Men’s 470.

Top performances of the day came from Zach Railey (Clearwater, Fla.), Paige Railey (Clearwater, Fla.) and Anna Tunnicliffe’s (Plantation, Fla.) Team Maclaren, Molly Vandemoer (Stanford, Calif.) and Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, N.Y.), who now stands with six wins, one loss.

In the Finn class, which is divided into two fleets each day, Zach Railey (Clearwater, Fla.) opened the regatta with a strong 2-5 in the yellow fleet to establish an overall second place behind Ben Ainslie (GBR).

'When we went out on the water there was absolutely no wind on the water.' said Railey. We got the sea breeze to fill in and we got two good races in, with something like 8-10 knots. I was very happy with the first race. I rounded eighth at the first weather mark and wound up second. That was really good I was going really fast off the wind. Second race finished I finished fifth. It was a solid first day. I made a few mistakes, but we’ll pick up on that tomorrow and better the results tomorrow.'

For Paige Railey, in the Laser Radial class, she also scored a solid day with an 8-2 to put herself into a strong fourth place standing after the first day of racing.

Racing continued in Women’s Match Racing with Anna Tunnicliffe (Plantation, Fla.), Molly Vandemoer (Stanford, Calif.) and Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, N.Y.) returning to the round robin competition. They dropped one match to the German team lead by Silke Hahlbrook and now stand 6-1.

Racing continues Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the Women’s RS:X, Laser Radial, Finn and Men’s 470 classes, as well as Women’s Match Racing when Genny Tulloch (Sausalito, Calif.), Alice Manard Leonard (East Haven, Conn.) and Jenn Chamberlin (Washington, D.C.) return to round robin competition.
