Go Sailing Day - Malcolm Page to hoist sail in St. Kilda

The world’s top 470 dinghy sailor and current Olympic champion Malcolm Page will make a guest media appearance (with his gold medal), this Sunday at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, to help launch the state wide community Go Sailing Day.

Malcolm Page won gold at the Beijing Olympics and is a multiple World and European Champion. He represented Australia at the 2004 Athens Games and has received further numerous awards and accolades from the Australian Institute of Sport. He has a cupboard full of State, National, European and World titles including this years 470 World Championship scored in the Netherlands. Next week he will be racing in the ISAF World Cup being staged at Sandringham Yacht Club.

More than 30 Port Phillip and regional inland yacht clubs are playing hosts for this year’s free annual community Go Sailing Day organised by Yachting Victoria.

At St Kilda, hundreds of visitors will be able to go for a free sail on anything from an off the beach dinghy to an ocean going keelboat. The day will give thousands of would be Jessica Watsons a unique opportunity to step inside a yacht club to soak up its unique atmosphere and enjoy the experience of enjoying affordable sailing at its best.

You are invited to cover Malcolm Page’s visit to Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron’s Go Sailing Day where he will meet and greet many of the hundreds of guests with his helmsman Mathew Belcher, talk about his gold medal win and inspire visitors to hoist sail on an ocean going yacht for a quick spin out on the Bay.

The free annual community Go Sailing Day will take place Sunday 6h of November 2011 at 11am at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron – Pier Road St Kilda West (Melways ref: Map 2N H6).
