US Sailing ISAF Youth World Qualifier equipment announced

US Sailing’s Olympic Sailing Committee has announced the equipment for the US Sailing’s 2012 International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Youth Worlds Qualifier. The event will take place January 13-16, 2012 at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach, California.

All entrants are required to bring their own boat to compete in the following events:

- Singlehanded boy’s: Laser Radial
- Singlehanded girls: Laser Radial
- Doublehanded boy’s: International 420
- Doublehanded girl’s: International 420
- Open Skiff: 29er
- Boy’s windsurfer: Techno 293, all sail sizes (top athlete with 7.8 and/or 6.8 qualify)
- Girls windsurfer: Techno 293, all sail sizes (top athlete with 7.8 and/or 6.8 qualify)

All competitors must be members of US Sailing, under the age of 19 by December 31, 2012, and be eligible to represent the United States at the ISAF Youth World Championships 2012. Eligible competitors may enter by completing an online entry by following the link posted on the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club website. Entry deadline is by January 6, 2012.

Racing for this event will take place on San Pedro Bay January 14-16, 2012 with registration and measurement checks taking place on January 13, 2012. Nine races are scheduled and awards will be presented to competitors immediately following racing on January 16. Each class winner who meets all eligibility requirements will be invited to join the US Sailing Development Team and to represent the United States at the ISAF Youth World Championships 2012 in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland.

Although there will be a multihull discipline contested at the 2012 ISAF Youth World Championship, the U.S. multihull class team will be selected at the Florida Regatta, in January, 2012.

About the US Sailing Development Team: Created in 2008, the US Sailing Development Team (USSDT) is qualified for annually, and supported and administered exclusively by the US Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC) of US Sailing.

The OSC’s mission for the USSDT is to develop sailors for Olympic-caliber competition and to prepare them for qualification to the US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics (USSTAG) and the Olympic Sailing Team.
