The REAL New Zealand Festival of Sails concluded this week with its final event being the New Zealand Business Games yacht race.
Sixteen teams arrived at Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club to meet their skippers and crews and head out onto the harbour. The forecast breeze never arrived but instead dropped away to turn the harbour into a mill pond.
The race began despite the breeze and the teams started to head off towards Somes Island. About half way there Race Officer Pedro Morgan put the call out for the fleet to turn around and the first boat back to the finish line would be the winner! It didn't take the teams long to make it back to the club for a sumptuous BBQ and a good time in wardroom.
And so endeth three weeks of sailing action on Wellington's Harbour. Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club CEO Dean Stanley said ' we have really enjoying being part of the Rugby World Cup experience through the REAL New Zealand Festival. It has been fantatsic to host so many visitors from afar as well as from around New Zealand at the club over the last three weeks. Go the ALL BLACKS!'
