KUALA LUMPUR (27 September 2011): Eastern Coridor Economic Region Development Corporation (ECERDC) will provide an economic boost for Terengganu, come Monsoon Cup. The season ending World Match Racing Tour event will be used as a platform to showcase the 180 acres of prime real estate for waterfront development available in Kuala Terengganu to investors. Among incentives offered for investors include tax breaks and pioneer status.
“Monsoon Cup has been a catalyst for the development of Kuala Terengganu and economic opportunities in various sectors related to the event. Among them are hotels, tourism, restaurants, boat-making, food supplies, textiles and souvenirs. We have seen the development of two new hotels, Tg. Vista and Felda Residency” said Tun Abdullah, who is also the Advisor of ECER.
“The Monsoon Cup also helped turn the event venue, Pulau Duyong at the mouth of the Terengganu River, from a sleepy fishing and boat-making village into a modern and international-class resort and the only operating marina on the east coast” added Tun Abdullah.
Tun Abdullah also presented Monsoon Cup 2010 : The Memories, a coffee table book, which chronicles the history of the Monsoon Cup and its impact on the Malaysian sailing scene to the sponsors of Monsoon Cup which included Telekom Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines, Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa and GBA Corporation.
The book is timely as so much has been accomplished by the Monsoon Cup over the last six years from the beginning in 2005, when former Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi guided the ground-breaking ceremony of the opening of Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa; to 2010 when Monsoon Cup was recognised for its achievements at the World Match Racing Tour Awards.
Monsoon Cup 2010: The Memories provides a fascinating glimpse into how the yacht race grew from a simple vision into an internationally acclaimed event. Captured through stunning images and inspiring blurbs, each of its 157 pages is an account of Monsoon Cup’s voyage of sailing the dream. As you cruise through the book, soak up the sights, enjoy the adventure and experience the myriad of emotions seen in a people consumed by a love and passion for sailing. All these have been skilfully photographed by Sub Zero Images, Slick Angle Studio and Markless Photography in pictures that paint a thousand words and bring a million smiles.
Monsoon Cup 2010: The Memories also recognises those whose endeavours have contributed to the growth and development of sailing in Malaysia. From the country’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib to Malaysia’s regal sailing champion, our very own King of Malaysia, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, the energetic Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and Datuk Sri Ahmad bin Said, Chief Minister of Terengganu and many more, whose support has made the sport what it is today.
