Monte Carlo Yachts unveils the MCY 65

by Media Services on 13 Sep 2011 After the success of last year's multi-award winning MCY 76, Monte Carlo Yachts is hoping for similar plaudits with the new 65, launched last week at the Cannes Yacht Show.

It follows in the wake of the highly acclaimed MCY 76 which won seven awards and was crowned Boat of the Year 2010.

According to its makers, the 65 will have four cabins, three of which will be ensuite and the master cabin amidships will, according to the yard, be the largest in its class. There is also a twin-berth crew cabin aft with its own toilet and shower facilities.

'MCY 65 reaffirms the concept and strengths of the MCY 76,' says the design team. 'Elegance and functionality blend together, just like the design and technical solutions. And from this point of view the new model confirms all the appealing elements introduced last season by the MCY 76.

'The Portuguese deck forward, the radar mast to support the all-carbon T-top of the flybridge, the splendid glass supports that protect the lateral walkways up to the side entrance to the saloon: 20 metres of length that give the impression of being aboard a megayacht.'

Inside, they describe the decor as 'Elegance fused with functionality, beauty with utility.'

From preview images, it is clear the decor is refined and Spartan, without being cold. Walnut and grey oak dominate, with brown and grey leather inserts, a few touches of lacquer and fine fabrics from Armani Casa and Rubelli.
In the master cabin, placed amidships, space is the initial impression. Full beam, it is the largest in the category. Access is gained through a lobby flooded with natural light. The layout of the lower deck is completed by two other cabins (both with private bathrooms): the VIP cabin with a double bed and the guest cabin with twin beds.

For the main deck, design team Nuvolari and Lenard reaffirm the concept of continuity between interior and exterior spaces by positioning the galley right at the entrance to the saloon and emphasising this continuity by designing part of the galley for both indoor and outdoor use. Opposite is the dinette with a handsome table that is very functional and at the same time an authentic design object, in the spirit of the brand.

As on the MCY 76, the lounge area, featuring a large C-shaped sofa, is more internal. Next to the driver’s seat is an element associated more with larger boats: the access door to the external walkway, partially electrically powered.

From the Portuguese deck the forward bow area is reached via a central passage that separates two sunbathing/lounge areas, like on the MCY 76. On this model, too, the design made it possible to lower the floor of the bow in order to allow carrying out manoeuvres while comfortably standing, as is the case on larger boats.

The flybridge can be used even during the hottest part of the day thanks to the generous amount of shade offered by the carbon T-top, of which an ample portion can be freed by means of an efficacious electrically operated soft-top. To provide a greater number of seats the designers inserted the furniture unit containing the refrigerator, sink and barbecue at the base of the radar mast and positioned sofas on both sides of the flybridge.

Aft is yet another element more often found on larger craft: the door giving direct access from the stern platform to the crew cabin and the engine room. Privacy and functionality at the service of both owner and crew.

For propulsion Monte Carlo Yachts chose the new generation of MAN V8 1000 hp engines, which enable a cruising speed of 27 knots in average load conditions and a top speed of 31 knots.

For the new yacht, the fledgling shipyard (which borrows all the resources and talent of its parent company, the Beneteau Group) adopted a strongly innovative and very complex construction process, already used on the MCY 76, that eliminates onboard adjustment operations and makes it possible to attain excellent quality standards because the assembly tolerances are honed down to the millimetre.
