The Transatlantic Race 2011 witnessed the Puma Ocean Racing powered by BERG Propulsion team cross the finish line. Light winds on the final day caused them to inch towards the end, and the sound of the horn came as a relief. Little did they know they would walk away with four trophies.
At the race prize giving ceremony in Cowes, England, last night, Puma’s Mar Mostro skipper Ken Read was on hand to accept the awards. The Queen’s Cup, the trophy for the IRC Overall winner, was presented to Read by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.
The Puma crew was also honored with the Cape May Trophy for the win in IRC Class 1, the New York Yacht Club’s top yacht trophy, and the team trophy from the Storm Trysail Club, which is awarded to the top team in the race. PUMA’s Mar Mostro joined Snow Lion (IRC3, skipper Lawrence Huntington)as a two-boat team.
