Laser 4.7 World Championships are being hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club on San Francisco Bay from 28th July.
West Australian Ben Walkemeyer has slipped from third to 10th place overall after the second day of racing at the Laser 4.7 world championships. However, he is still within a striking distance of the leaders in the 112 boat fleet.
After his 7-2 opening day score, Ben had an 11th and a 12th place today in overall results from the two divisions. Spanish sailors Francisco Gonzales and Carlos Rosello still head the standings from Japan’s Keiju Okada.
Biggest improver among the Australians in the boys championship on day two was Nicholas Connor (NSW) whose second and 18th place has lifted him from 40th to 19th overall. Dylan Gore (Tas) is 28th with a 33rd and a seventh place today.
Max Vos (NSW) finished 30th and 22nd on day two to be 45th overall, Kailas Johnson (Tas) is 57th after 52-33 score and 13-year-old Jock Calvert (Tas) placed 27th and 34th to be 62nd overall. Nelson Brown (Tas) is climbing back up the rankings following his race one ‘ocs’. His 40th and 20th on day two has lifted him to 81st.
In the girls world championship, Italy’s Cecila Zorzi has had three first places and a fifth to head the rankings. Australian Milly Bennett (NSW) slipped back on day two with a 40th and an 11th and is now 13th overall.
Tasmanian lass Sophie Chesterman placed 14th and 29th and is 24th overall while Emma Barton, also from Tasmania, bounced back from her race two black flag disqualification with a seventh in race three today. However, in the next heat she placed 37th and is 29th overall.
