Gauntlet - 5th Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race 2011 Suellen Hurling
It’s not often you would find sponsor’s battling for supremacy at a club race, however this is not just any race, the Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race [B2K] breeds a different kind of sponsor.
In the midst of one of Australia’s fastest growing offshore yacht races, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron pits boat against boat, member against member and sponsor against sponsor.
The B2K sponsors not only support the race, but this year’s entry line up sees two of the event sponsors racing to the finish at Keppel Bay.
Angove’s Family Wine Makers and Morgan’s Seafood will meet at the start line for the fifth year running, rather than becoming tangled in a race within a race, their focus still remains in the fun of competing.
‘We love the action, the lead-up prep, the on-board bonding, destination entertainment and of course the racing - we love the race so much so that we, Morgan’s Seafood, are delighted to be sponsoring again this year,’ said Penny Morgan, General Manager of Morgan’s Seafood and crew member on board Dream Lover.
Sean Trotter, the Queensland Sales Manager for Angove’s Family Winemakers said the company came on board as a sponsor in the inaugural year of the event and they always look forward to competing on the Sydney 36, Gauntlet.
‘As a passionate sailor, who has been involved with the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron both as a member and sponsor for over 12 years, it is fantastic to be able to sail and participate in the event that we support,’ said Trotter.
The 2011 B2K is set to be the best yet, and while there is always the competition for first place, this event always brings with it, unofficial races within races.
‘This is Dream Lover’s fifth Brisbane to Keppel & we are really looking forward to this year’s race. I think most yachties would agree that the Keppel race is definitely a highlight of the year,’ said Morgan.
The gloves slide on next Friday the 5th August with the start gun firing at 1200 hours. The fleet will race from east of Green Island on Brisbane’s Moreton Bay then north along the Fraser Coast then into the tropical waters of the Capricorn Coast.
The Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race is part of Tourism Queensland’s Season of Sailing.
The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is pleased to acknowledge the principal sponsors of the 2011 Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race; Club Marine, who has renewed their commitment as naming rights sponsor for the fifth year, David Bray Yachts, Club Super, and Morgan’s Seafood, Angove Family Winemakers, Bundaberg Rum and the Rockhampton Regional Council.
The race is hosted by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron with the support of Keppel Bay Marina, Keppel Bay Sailing Club, Yeppoon Coast Guard and Bundaberg VMR.
