Victorian Moth Fleet looking for new pilots

by Leigh Dunstan on 15 Jul 2011
Local sailor Richard Jackson Kylie Dunstan
Have you ever wondered what it is like to sail a Moth? If you live in Victoria we are in the midst of a very exciting period for the class. We are fortunate enough to host the upcoming National Titles next January at Mornington YC. Following the success of the recent World Titles held on Lake Macquarie this year it promises to be a wonderful event.

During the 2011/12 season we are also running the KA Sails Victorian Moth Grand Prix at clubs across Westernport, Port Phillip and Corio Bay. This will be an exciting event that will bring the Victorian fleet together for some fantastic racing at a variety of venues. One of the rounds of the Grand Prix will also be the Victorian State Titles run as part of the ‘Geelong Festival of Sail’.

There is a perception that Moths are above the average sailor, this is not true! The Victorian Moth fleet has a wide diversity of skill, sizes and age. We have beginners through to world champions, we have people who weigh 50kg through 100kg and we have 17 year olds through to sailors in their 50’s. We also have a growing women's fleet.

If you have ever looked at a Moth and thought that looks like fun you were right, there is nothing that comes close. Check out our new online blog and this will direct you to where you need to go. If you have any queries please ask.

This is an exciting time for Victorian Moth sailing, give it a go!!
