Historical Ten Foot Skiffs NSW Championships

Sydneysider’s fascination with traditional wooden boats is gaining momentum. Drummoyne Sailing Club hosted the NSW Championship for Historical Ten Foot Skiffs over three weekends in January.
The regatta proved so popular that the fleet will return to Drummoyne for two races on Sunday the 9th and 16th of February.
The ten footers were a class that appeared in the 1880’s on Sydney Harbour and had their heyday in the first fifteen years of the 20th century, and revived after the First World War, but did not survive after the Second World War.
They were smaller versions of the more famous eighteen footers and similarly were unrestricted in crew numbers, beam and sail area.
Like the eighteens they had small side decks, foredecks and used lee cloths to keep the water out. They carried all the sails that the eighteens carried, including ringtails, ballooners, and early on even topsails.
