The 2011 Grado 3 Match Race Ravenna starts tomorrow with seven teams from Australia, Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Greece competing.
Sailed on Platu 25s with a crew of four and hosted by the CVR yacht club in the Marina Di Ravenna harbour, True Blue Racing heads into the event positive of a good result after a solid three day training camp on the Platu 25s. Helmed by Jordan Reece with his new crew of Henry Kernot, Arnau Farras-Knowles and Jaidan Stevens the team seeded two in the event will look for a better result after their debut regatta as a team in last week’s World Match Racing Tour qualifying round in Gothenburg, Sweden.
‘The team feels ready to take on the next challenge’ said Arnau Farras-Knowles after the three day intense training camping in Ravenna, Italy. After being ill-prepared for their last event True Blue Racing took the opportunity to train on the Platu 25s that are to be used for the Grado3 Match Race starting tomorrow. ‘It was a good opportunity to get some much needed time on the water. We’re a new team with only one event under our belt so at this stage any time training together is invaluable’, said skipper Jordan Reece.
The seven teams from Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Greece and Australia will come up against each other in the confined waters of the breakwater at Marina di Ravenna. Crew work and boat handling will be very important with the short courses expected so the team has been focusing on pushing themselves to be quicker in all spinnaker sets and drops as well as being precise in mark roundings and other manoeuvres.
‘It’s an important event for the team. We come in ranked as second favourites by world rankings. In Sweden we looked to start our tour on a positive note and compete well and I think we did that. Here we are looking to win. Match racing is a very mental game and mindset does come into it so it’s important that we start getting into a winning habit,’ said mainsail trimmer Henry Kernot.
