The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) is located at Manly on the foreshores of Moreton Bay. RQYS is set to live up to their Regatta City name with 2012 set to be the biggest year of racing in their 127 year history.
27 Dec – 4 Jan - Laser Australian Championship
29 Dec – 5 Jan - Sharpie Australian Championship
6-10 Jan - Australian Youth Championship
12-19 Jan - 29er Australian Championship
14-21 Jan - Optimist Australian Championship
4-7 March - Laser Masters Australian Championship
12-19 March - Laser Masters World Championship
3 June - 'Sail Noumea' Brisbane to Noumea Category 1 Yacht Race
28th June -4th July Laser Radial Youth World Championship (Boys & Girls)
5-2 July - 'Queensland Youth Week,' Australian Midwinter Youth Championship
11-17 July - Laser Radial Men’s World Championship
20-23 July - Laser Asia Pacific Championship
3 Aug - Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race Category 2
In between those major regattas RQYS will continue to host club, regional and Queensland Championships.
'It’s going to be a pretty intense year!' said RQYS Sailing Manager Suellen Hurling. 'We are incredibly fortunate to have a very strong team of active volunteers to assist with these events.'
The volunteer team at RQYS consists of international, national, state and club race officers, national and state judges and expert course layers. In addition to this they have a dedicated shore tea, including communication officers and ramp marshalls.
'Our team works extremely well together and whilst out main role is to host world class events we also have fun along the way,' said Hurling.
