It's here! New Zealand’s favourite boat show starts this Thursday! The 2011 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show, at the ASB Showgrounds Greenlane Auckland, starts Thursday (May 12) and runs through to Sunday (May 15). Gates are open from 10am until 6pm and there is one late night: Friday, May 13, when the show stays open until 9pm.

Last chance to pre-purchase and save

If you’re planning to come to this year’s Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show and would like to avoid the queues – and save money – pre-purchase your tickets on line today.

Pre-purchased adult tickets are just $16 (instead of $18 at the gate) but there is a catch: they are only available until 5pm this Wednesday, May 4.

Plenty for the kids, & they get in free!

There’s plenty for the young ones to see and do at this year’s show. They can go fishing in the Discover Boating Centre, enter the colouring competition (download it here), have a go at model yacht racing and try a sailing simulator. They can also play the Great Brain Drain, have a go at packing up a real America’s Cup spinnaker, use the surf rescue simulator and try windsurfing or paddle boarding.

bruceandkid_270.jpgThey can even bring their togs and get a free swimming lesson in the new heated pool!

There is a full programme of events, designed to appeal to the whole family, in both the Discover Boating Centre and the new Youthtown Aqua Fun Zone. Check them out here

There’s lots to interest adults, too:

There is plenty to appeal to us slightly older folk, too. Discover Boating Centre MC’s Bruce Duncan. Adam Clancey and Pio Tere will share their favourite fishing spots and show how to catch, fillet and cook our most popular fish. Bob McDavitt will explain what that marine weather forecast really means and there will even be special guest appearances by sailing adventurer Tony Mowbray, sharing his Sydney-Hobart experience.

Win a heli-fishing trip with Hauraki

heli2_500.jpgIt’s got to be the ultimate fishing experience and it could be yours for free! Radio Hauraki, the long-time sponsor of our popular Hauraki Fishing Hall, is giving away a Heletranz heli-fishing trip. Simply visit the Radio Hauraki stand  (in the Hauraki Fishing Hall, of course), fill in the entry form and you are in the draw to win a trip for you and two mates. Of course, there is a catch but it’s not  a bad one: you’ll be “escorted” by Hauraki breakfast host and mad-keen fisher, Nick Trott.

Loads of other prizes, too

There’s so much to win at this year’s Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show, it sometimes seems like everyone will be going home with a prize! As well as the main gate prize: the very cool Extreme/Yamaha Family Fishing Boat Package and the four daily $3000 Viking Kayak Packages (and the heli-fishning trip), there’s also a $3000 Cressi dive package, a trip to Rotorua to go trout fishing, charter trips on Auckland boat Wavedancer and so much more.

For all the details, visit our website or check out the Official Show Guide in next Tuesday’s copy of the New Zealand Herald.

Tell us what you think & win a flight over the Gulf!

touchpollweb.jpgWe want to know what you think about the show. What you liked, what you didn’t, what we can do to make the experience even better for you and your family next year.

Please help us by visiting the easy-to-use TouchPoll screens in the Gate Prize Entry area in Hall 5 (where you enter to win the Extreme/Yamaha Family Fishing Boat Package and the four daily $3000 Viking Kayak Packages).

Our survey takes just a few minutes and every one that is completed goes in the draw for a flight over the Hauraki Gulf in the Telecom “Catch Fish Not Cables” patrol plane.
