Coastguard Boating Education (CBES) Chairman, Brooke Archbold, is pleased to announce the appointment of Katie McNabb to the CBES board.

Katie, currently an active CBES tutor resident in the Marlborough region, will be the first South Islander to join the board. She was the inspiration behind the ‘Women on Board’ Day Skipper programme introduced in 2006 which encouraged women to enjoy their boating more by becoming confident and knowledgeable, for which she received the 2008 Innovation Award at the CBES national conference in Auckland.

Katie has operated a jet boat charter business in Wanaka in addition to owning jet boats for over 15 years. Recently regaining her passion for sailing which started with her parents, the acquisition of a 36ft Beneteau will see her at the helm as a charter skipper as well as relaxing in the waters of the sounds.

A qualified event manager with many years of experience in sports administration and training, her interest in boating and maritime safety has also included time on the national executive of Jet Boating New Zealand, and appointment as a Maritime New Zealand Safe Boating Advisor. Katie’s boating interest even includes writing cruising articles about the Marlborough Sounds for Boating New Zealand.

It is our great pleasure to welcome Katie aboard; we look forward to her continued enthusiasm and support of CBES in this new role.
