Forceracing reports on upcoming Optimist and Club racing clinics

March has been another good month for Forceracing, with the Optimist J Sails going well and a cool coaching contract landed.

Forceracing will run the Pre Worlds Optimist Coaching Clinic in Napier with a big focus on the venue and getting used to the venue before the Worlds start.

This clinic will start on the 20th of December with Jon Bilger the director of Predictwind.com and ex Alinghi weatherman giving a presentation on Napier, we also have some great New Zealand Coaches coaching at the clinic – international coaches are most welcome to join in the coaching coming along with the kiwi coaches to get the local insights on the venue.

The clinic ends on the 23rd of December with a 'coaches run' regatta with many great prizes to be won.

The Forceracing Optimist Clinic that was scheduled for the 12th of March had to be postponed until the following Saturday as of the terrible events that occurred in Japan the previous evening, and triggering the Civil Defence warning of a possible tsunami in the Auckland region. The 19th of March was however a very successful day with 39 sailors attending the clinic from as far away as Taipa in Northland to Tauranga. A big thank you from Forceracing to Murrays Bay, Wakatere and Kohi for making these clinics the success they are, and great to see the Torbay sailors joining in on the act as well!

The clinic and the afternoon racing was sponsored by NZSail (www.nzsail.com) which was great to have that sort of support for the up and coming junior sailors in New Zealand.

The Kohi club are going strong with coaching and the culture at the club on the Wednesday evenings and regattas are awesome – and with the recent media around sideline supporters in school sport isn’t great we don’t have these problems in sailing!

Lastly this last weekend was the first (for the double handers) youth clinic since the ISAF Youth Worlds selection trials. We had a variance in weather on both days which was great for training and it is great to see teams keen and sailing hard!

April brings an Opti Clinic in Taupo, the Opti Nationals, 470 Junior squad training so some nice work times ahead, with a bit of sailing thrown in for good measure!
