A little bit of news from Pt Chevalier SC. Over the last couple of years we have been building up a junior sailing programme in Pt Chevalier. We have had a big up-take of members, with 70 junior sailors down here now, learning their way around Opti's, Lasers and Splashes.
We are offering LTS level 1 and 2 courses, with some of the more competent sailors learning to race. We ran a recent race series (9 races), with generous prizes gifted by Andrew Brown from www.forceracing.nz!Force_Racing.
Andrew provided three hours of coaching for second place, and a JSail race sail for first prize. We are hoping to run some clinics with him in Autumn to keep up-skilling our burgeoning Green Fleet. So a big thanks to Andrew for his ongoing support. We are not yet at nationals level, but three of the Pt Chevalier Opti sailors competed in the recent Wakatere (Feb), regatta and were in the middle of the green fleet.
We have Elie Copeland down here coaching on Friday nights, which is really improving their game. We've got LTS for teenagers as well, sailing in our small fleet of club boats (Lasers and Splashes). So keep an eye out for Pt Chev sailors at upcoming events!
