After a long hard working life and two rebuilds the `Jane Gifford' Trust proudly returned her, to visit Auckland harbour, Jane Gifford was escorted into the harbour by the scow `Ted Ashby' and brigantine `Breeze' from the Maritime Museum's fleet, and the recently refurbished steam boat Greenbank from Clevedon.
Auckland Harbour board also welcomed back an old customer with a fine display of maneuvering by one of their Tug's.
Photographer Paul Gilbert of www.aquapx.com recalls her being slid down a bank, returned to the water at Waiuku on the Manukau Harbour, and again, much later on Orakei's hardstand, being in large part consigned to a rubbish skip. Then miraculously returned to a new life afloat.
Resurrected to MSA standard and now based in Warkworth by the energy and dedication of the `Jane Gifford trust'. and their skilled and selfless volunteers. trust members and driving force Peter Thompson and Hugh Gladwell can take considerable credit for their foresight organisational skills and energy in delivering one of early New Zealand's iconic working craft as a living experience to be enjoyed by yet unborn generations.
