One of many main events coming to MBSC is the annual Three of Kind Regatta – an invitational yard stick event on 13th March 2011 open to all Class Associations. All fleets are welcome at this popular event. The Nomination Forms, Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for all fleets are on the website.
The following weekend will see the club hosting The Big Night Out in aid of the MBSC Rescue Boat Fund. There will be five of Perth's top bands playing on a waterfront outdoor stage. Band styles range from acoustic duos, blues/rock, doo wop, soul/pop, and indie rock, so there is something for everyone. Headlining on 19th March 2011 is Tracksuit and supporting them will be Boom! Bap! Pow! Heath Marshall, Cannonels and Kismet. The evening will be supported by a kids' big screen cinema, a silent auction and gourmet tasting platters, so come down and enjoy the Bay's relaxed atmosphere and support sailing in Western Australia.
Coinciding with the Sharpie State Championships a fortnight ago was the annual MBSC Veteran’s Day. Over 50 Veterans arrived not only to socialise and reminisce, but to honour some of their own and to revisit their own youth with antics at the Sharpie State Championship presentations.
A display on the Quarterdeck of legendary sailor Jack Cassidy’s memorabilia honoured his recently celebrated 90th birthday.
A spin off from the newly introduced and highly successful Grass Roots Training Programme has seen the need for a new rescue boat and Veterans Day provided the perfect opportunity to christen the new RIB. The RIB was named ‘Joe Creeper’ in memory of Veteran Joe who worked tirelessly at the club over the past decade and who passed away on 4th December last year.
