The UAE Wooden Powerboat Championships will race round 2 and 3 on Thursday 17th and Saturday 19th this week at Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC). The second round was postponed by three weeks due to unsettled weather conditions making the organizers take the decision to delay the race and run the two rounds in close succession.
Up to 20 boats have registered to compete in the Championships and last seasons winners, Delma Marine drivers Ahmed Ali Jabir Al Hamli and Ahmed Ateeq Al Qumzi, who won the first three heats and came third in the final round giving them a total of 730 points, will be hoping to hold on to their lead. Close behind them last season was Salim Fadhel Al Hamli and Ahmed Mohd. Hassan Al Suwaidi in Extreme Marine with 610 points.
The course set to run off the Mina Seyahi coast will cover 8 laps totaling 36 nautical miles and with the strong winds due to taper off to a gentle 7 knots by Thursday it should be a fast race.
The races will start at 11am each day and access is free to DIMC to watch the action from the breakwater. The next round is in Abu Dhabi on 1st April followed by the final in Dubai on 23rd April.
