Albacore Internationals to be held Sept 16-23 in Toronto, Ontario

The 20th Albacore Internationals will be held from September 16th to 23rd, 2011 in Toronto, Ontario. An exciting week is being planned with great sailing and social events. Racing will be held south of Toronto Island.

The event is being hosted in two venues. Most of the social events will be taking place in Toronto’s Outer Harbour, which also has the facilities to store and quickly launch a large number of boats and can easily accommodate a shipping container. Competitors will be able to meet here before and after racing for the daily awards and social activities.

We are pleased to have the Royal Canadian Yacht club be the organizing committee in conjunction with the Canadian Albacore Association. It is fitting that RCYC is hosting the Internationals on its 40th anniversary as RCYC was the host of the very first Albacore Internationals in 1971. Two banquet dinners will be held at the club on Toronto Island.

The Inner and Outer Harbours are home to a large concentration of Albacores and we expect to see many of them on the race course. The local clubs (Mooredale, Outer Harbour Centreboard, St. James Town, Toronto Island, and Westwood) host racing events that occupy almost every weekend during the summer. Their Friday night club series draws an average of 45 boats with peaks of 50-60 boats on the start line every week.

The Canadian Championships are being incorporated into the Internationals and can be sailed on its own with 6 races planned and 5 to count. The Internationals will be scored as a cumulative of the Canadians and Internationals results with a total of 14 races planned and 12 to count.
