Monaco Yacht Club will open the Mediterranean regatta season with two international events in line with its sports-oriented vocation: the Monaco Optimist Team Racing (21-23 January 2011) and the unmissable Primo Cup-Credit Suisse Trophy (3-6 and 10-13 February 2011).
Monaco Optimist Team Racing (21-23 January 2011)
Following on from the success of the first competition, Monaco Yacht Club will bring together an international line-up once again, in collaboration with SLAM. Twelve yacht clubs from eight nations will come from all over Europe to take part in this team competition, where only the group result is taken into account. Team Racing is an original concept with teams of four sailors aged from 12 to 15 years and requires not only the mastery of one's own boat, but also perfect knowledge of the rules of the race, in order to gain the upper hand over the opponents. Some teams, following the example of the Royal Yacht Club of Moscow and the Saint Petersburg Sea Yacht Club, will cover several thousand kilometres and leave their frozen seas to confront the best Europeans. Among the favourites is the Société Nautique de Genève (Geneva Nautical Society), winners of the first race last year and determined to retain their title, who will be lining up two teams on the starting line.
27th Primo Cup-Credit Suisse Trophy (3-6 and 10-13 February 2011)
The Primo Cup-Credit Suisse Trophy is the principal event on the Mediterranean circuit by virtue of the number of its contestants. Organised by Monaco Yacht Club, it is one of the most important winter monotype events in Europe. As it has done every year for the past 25 years, the Primo Cup-Credit Suisse Trophy will play host to the elite of Europe, with almost 1,000 sailors representing around fifteen nationalities.
