Sydney Rigging Specialists announce New Director

by Bruce Clark on 7 Jan 2011
Sydney Rigging Specialists are happy to announce the appointment of Craig Garnett as a new director to the company joining Bruce Clark and Peter Gardner who started the company 15 years ago.

Craig began working for Sydney Rigging as an apprentice rigger in 2001 and quickly learnt the tools of the trade. An experienced dinghy sailor, a graduate from the CYCA Youth Academy; and soon after proving himself as a competent bowman on offshore boats, Craig developed the specialised skills required for yacht rigging.

Having a few years break from SRS, Craig began working for Matt Allen between 2006 and 2007 as the boat captain for the Farr 40 Ichi Ban. Craig returned to Sydney Rigging in the summer of 2008 into the role of Special Projects Manager servicing the major rigging requirements for the new boats being built including Alfa Romeo 69, Singularity, Loki, and Green Dragon.

In 2008 – 2009, Craig worked closely with the Volvo Round the World Green Dragon team as their shore crew rigger, meeting the team at each stop over and completing their rig servicing in sometimes testing conditions of both extreme heat in Kochi, India and extreme cold in Qingdao, China.

Craig’s experience in sailing both dinghy and large offshore boats has proven a great asset to the Sydney Rigging team as he has strong familiarity of the rigging requirements in these two extremes of the sport.

Craig continues to sail his Cherub dinghy with partner Susan from Lane Cove 12ft Sailing Skiff club, as well as maintain his professional sailing on Brett Neill’s Farr 40 – White Cloud, Stephen Ainsworth’s RP 63 Loki and Tom Braidwood’s Etchell – Fantazia.
