The green rolling hills of South Bohemia provide the picturesque backdrop to the 2025 Cadet World Championship on Lake Lipno. The general relaxed vibe of this resort area is about to be punctured by the enthusiasm, energy and expectation of over 200 Cadet sailors waiting for the signal that they can tally and launch for day 2.
After the cloud and rain of the previous day the sky is blue, sun is out and the breeze building. Day 1 proved to be very successful for the British team with Alex Enkel and Jude Baldock receiving the coveted 'yellow' bibs of the competition leaders, Tour de France style, going into the second day.
The second day was more challenging for the British team. Alex Enkel said that "it was tricky, with the starts being harder with increased confidence on the start line but consistency improved as the wind built." Alex and his crew Jude Baldock retained their position as overall competition leaders with a seventh, eighth (discarded) and second in the final race of the day.
Day 2 also saw success for Monty Hampton and Henry Yates with an excellent win in the second race of the day. They were the first boat to the windward mark when the wind dropped allowing them to extend their lead as the rest of the fleet struggled up to the mark. Monty said, "racing has been tough, it was good to get a big lead and get the first."
Monty and Henry lie in eleventh overall at the end of day 2. Jemima McMorris and Islay Bromhead have also been performing really consistently given the shifty conditions and a 17th, ninth and 27th sees them in twelfth overall at the end of day 2.
Team GBR have a brought a strong contingent to the promo competition. An excellent performance on day 2 sees five of the top ten boats from the British team.
Mia Stanislaus and Sophie Baer won the first race on second day and retained the overall lead at the end of the day 2. Ava Stoddart and Jemima Cox-Olliff won the final race on day 2 and sees them lie fifth overall. Consistent performance sees Mimi Windibank and George Blackwell third overall, with Emily Krailing and Rosie Hancock in eighth and Lewis Walker and Oli Walker in tenth.
A team that plays together wins together, and following the sailing all the GBR sailor headed in to town for pizza, whilst parents had a little down time of their own. Thanks to fantastic GBR team sponsors Hawke Optics Marine and excellent team coaches Vince Horey, Alex Corby, Rhona Enkel and Zac Windibank who made sure everyone had a great time.
