The first of the Westcoaster fleet from Melbourne is due to arrive in Hobart at 6.30pm. Since finding the breeze this morning, Gusto has firstly screamed along the bottom of Tasmania, firstly from South West Cape to South East Cape and then up past the Bruny Island and in to the Derwent River.
This shows her awesome speed potential and at around five hours behind her Eastcoaster rival, Goldfinger, she can take some pride in knowing that if the hole around Strahan had not proven so devastating, then she may well have made more ground up, earlier on.
By way of example, she will be in Hobart just as her colleagues on the Westcoaster race round the South West Cape she flew past in the early hours of this morning. On board Gusto is the son of the skipper of Goldfinger, Peter Blake. Simon Blake completed the 5500nm Melbourne to Osaka two-handed race together with his father in 2003.
The Iron Pot is 11nm down the Derwent River from the Hobart finish line.
