Variety Splash 2011.

Australian actor Blair McDonough, Hawthorn Football Club Premiership player Brad Sewell and 3AW Radio host Mike Brady are throwing their support and talents behind Variety Splash.

Long time Variety supporter Blair shot to fame as the runner-up in the inaugural Big Brother house before moving into acting and is now a star of a new Channel Seven series 'Winners and Loosers'. After experiencing the Variety Bash for the first time this year, Blair has decided to try his hand at the Splash. 'I had so much fun, I’ve jumped at the opportunity to work with Variety to help them promote the event' said McDonough.

Returning for his second year as a Variety Splash ambassador, Brad Sewell will be participating in Splash in between his pre-season football training. Brad said 'Following my involvement last year, I saw so many boating enthusiasts raising money for charity and having fun on the water– I wouldn’t miss out on this unique event'.

For the first time Mike Brady will be entering his own boat in Splash. A keen boater Mike will enter his Beneteau Oceanis cruising yacht in the event and will host a number of friends onboard over the three days of boating on Port Phillip. 'I’m looking forward to the Splash event in February. I have been on ten Variety road events but never a water event. I have a special place for Variety in my life and it is a truism that everything that Variety does, whilst being fun for the participants, always has a true benefit for Australia’s children in need….. Splash will be a new experience for me and my crew' said Brady.

In 2011 the three-day Variety Splash will follow a new course taking the fleet from Docklands to Queenscliff; Queenscliff to Mornington; Mornington to Sandringham.

With the support of the three ambassadors Blair, Brad and Mike, Variety Splash is appealing to corporates and the boating community to be involved in what is a unique event which ensures exceptional hospitality and fun, whilst raising much needed funds and increasing the awareness of the wonderful work Variety does.

The Variety Splash is similar in style to the infamous Variety Bash, where the focus is firmly placed on having fun. As with all Variety events, the Splash has a serious side.

Its primary objective is to raise money for children in the community with a wide range of special needs.

The money raised goes towards Sunshine Coaches (minibuses) for children’s organisations, Liberty Wheelchair Swings for council playgrounds, specialist communication devices such as Dynavox machines, mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and Second Skin Splints, neo-natal transport ambulances, and public education campaigns.

It is hoped that the 2011 event will raise approximately $150,000 for Children with Special Needs. Included in the 300 participants will be sailors, power boaties, corporate and private teams, all dedicated to transforming the lives of special children.

To become involved - gather a team and set yourselves a fundraising goal. Catch the ‘Bash’ spirit and challenge your team to be amongst the top fundraisers. Remember each small donation adds to your goal and the Variety Splash team are here to support you in your efforts.
