Clash at the Cove - Entry and Regatta details

by Marsden Cove Event Media on 15 Dec 2010
Clash at the Cove - March 2011 Marsden Cove www.marsdencove.co.nz

Location: Marsden Cove, Northland - March 26 & 27, 2011

Classes: Competitive Race yachts and cruising yachts plus offshore power boats.

A regatta with sail and power, where everyone gets to share in fun including families, supporters and sponsors.

Hosted by Marsden Cove Marina, Clash at the Cove will be much more than a regatta. It will be a major marine event where everyone shares in the fun and race entry fees are unusually low; Only $50.

Forget standing around away from the action, being bored with formalities while you wait to see some action. The organizers have thrown out the orthodox regatta approach and come up with a new event concept designed by sailors for sailors which is totally focused on sailing action and spectators having fun.

The Clash at the Cove weekend regatta at Marsden Cover will coincide with the Northland Boat Show and NZOPA series offshore power boat race to create a huge weekend of marine festivities.

The sailing program will include a five race coastal series in the Bream Bay region for performance race yachts and a three race series for cruising yachts over March 26 and 27. The offshore power boat race will take place on an inner harbour course on the afternoon of Saturday March 26. Many novel races and activities will be included to keep the focus on spectator entertainment. So whether you have a competitive coastal racer or family cruiser with furling sails that would be fun in an enjoyable friendly competition, you are most welcome to join in.

Please email enquiries to paul@hoppers.co.nz

Regatta HQ will be at Marsden Cove marina which is conveniently located just inside the entrance to Whangarei Harbour and close to SH 1.

Marsden Cove, Northland’s fastest growing marine destination will be a unique regatta venue as it offers an excellent social opportunity for crew and their supporters during and following races. A large marquee overlooking the marina will be used to stage a Saturday evening event with food, wine live music and reports from the day’s racing.

A Feeder race from Auckland to Marsden Cove will take place the day before the regatta on Friday March 25, starting at 10:00am.

Registrations for the feeder race should be emailed to John Alleman, Gulf Harbour Yacht Club; email jjallemann@xtra.co.nz

Competing yachts may be left securely berthed at Marsden Cove marina for the remainder of the week and during the regatta free of charge.

Location: As Marsden Cove is only 1.5 hours drive north from Auckland, support crew and families can travel by road and not miss out on the action.

Sponsors wanted. If you or your business would like to assist with sponsorship prizes, which may include naming rights for races please email paul@hoppers.co.nz
