NSW Maritime Chief Executive Steve Dunn today officially opened the new multi-million dollar commuter wharf at Milsons Point near Luna Park.
Mr Dunn said NSW Maritime had undertaken the $7.5 million upgrade, berthing trials had been completed, and ferries are now operating a normal service at the harbour’s busiest commuter transport wharf.
'The upgrade is part of an $82 million wharf upgrade program by NSW Maritime,' he said.
'This wharf uses hydraulic ramp technology to adjust the pontoon height with the tide and delivers a host of benefits to more than 12,000 Sydney Ferries’ passengers who use Milsons Point wharf each week.'
Improvements include:
· The ability to use dual gangways for safer and quicker boarding
· wheelchair accessibility
· new signage
· new ramps to improve passenger flow, especially in busy times
· an undercover waiting area.

'Providing wheelchair access at Milsons Point wharf brings a new total of 18 wharves serviced by Sydney Ferries that are now accessible for wheelchair users, providing more options to move around Sydney on public transport,' Mr Dunn said.
'Milsons Point wharf is now serviced by the Darling Harbour/Balmain East, Parramatta River and Woolwich/Balmain routes, increasing services from 442 to 552 every week.'
Customers have been using Jeffreys Street wharf, 400m east of Milsons Point wharf while the six-month upgrade was underway.
The new wharf is architect designed to fit in with its iconic location under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and opposite the Sydney Opera House.
Wharves at Cremorne Point, Neutral Bay, and Rose Bay, will be among the next in line for a major upgrade under the NSW Maritime Sydney Commuter Wharf Upgrade Program.
