Trailable Yacht Festival 2010 - Victorian trailable yacht owners enjoyed a sunny weekend at Melbourne's docklands area early this month at the 2010 Trailable Yacht Festival. The Festival was organized by the Trailable Yacht Division of Yachting Victoria and hosted by Docklands Yacht Club. It is the sixth year of the Festival, now an annual event on the Victorian trailable yacht calendar.
Registrants enjoyed a walk around the Docklands precinct, including a visit to the Alma Doepel restoration site and to the Wooden Boat Centre before enjoying a pleasant BBQ and evening on the deck outside of the Docklands Yacht Club shed. During the evening a nautical quiz was conducted and the winners, Jean and Saxil Tuxen of the Magnum Association of Victoria received the Bob Couper Memorial Award. The award is sponsored by Cruising Helmsman magazine in memory of Bob and all his work in educating and informing owners of the joys of operating a trailable yacht.
The Sunday morning activities included a breakfast at a local eatery and then an address at the Waterfront City Marina office from Mike Smith. Mike has taken over the editorship of the Creeks and Harbours series of books created by Richard Hawkins. Mike spoke to more than 50 trailable yacht owners about the changes to the books and asked for feedback to rectify any errors or omissions. The afternoon saw boats motoring back to their launching places and home whilst others stayed on for a few more days at the Marina to enjoy the attractions of Melbourne.
